Every Picture Tells a Story 2

Vacations were never Dan Morgan’s thing. And who could blame him? There was the nearly lethal clam chowder incident in Frisco. Check-engine light disaster in Barstow. And don’t get him started on LAX.
So, for Dan, a weekend at a motel at a place called Moonstone Beach, surely a tourist trap, did not sound at all promising. His wife’s idea, of course.
Allison loves traveling. Dan is sure she loves planning trips even more than taking them. She spends hours – no, really weeks – on the Internet checking out The 20 Best Vacation Spots for Families. Or Oprah’s List of Top Resorts. She does this, Allison says, because vacations are about “Making Memories.”
Dan is suspicious of this reasoning. He knows Allison takes full advantage of the fact that he adores their daughter Chloe beyond measure, including doing just about anything to make her happy. In this case, he grumbles, that means three days of sandy feet, soggy swimsuits and quite possibly fog. He will avoid clams at all cost.
So, the family makes the trek up the coast. What they find are unbelievably scenic trails by the blue Pacific. Dolphins riding waves in the surf across from their motel. Gorgeous sunsets. Chloe fills her beach bucket with shells and even a few precious moonstones. Dan records it all on his phone, grinning ear to ear.
Yep, he admits, this making memories stuff ain’t so bad.
