Figure Drawing and Painting Group

August 13, 2024 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Second Tuesday of the month
Cambria Center for the Arts - Green Room

Join us for Figure Drawing and Painting!

CCA provides a model for drawing and painting practice from 10:00-12:00 on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Our next Drawing/Painting sessions will concentrate on the figure in a setting. Each pose will last 40+ minutes (with breaks). You can always change your seat if you want a new perspective.

Plus! We will ask for a volunteer to allow us to post their work to our website's next Figure Drawing/Painting header.

Bring your own supplies, pencils, pastels or paint, whatever you wish to use. Bring your own easel and a drop cloth if you plan to paint. Tables and chairs are available.

These are uninstructed sessions. We learn from practice and support from other participants.

Space is limited.

Fee $25 - CCA members $15

Mindful Marks Inspired Drawing Group

The question is not what you look at, but what you see. — Henry David Thoreau

August 21, 2024 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Third Wednesday of each month
Cambria Center for the Arts - Green Room

A group of us took Lynda Monick_Isenberg's two delightful workshops this past February and March. Observational Drawing and Mindful Marks. The basic premise of both workshops, in Lynda's words was: "Drawing is at the core of all art making; it is the way we first make our mark in the world. Drawing is expressive and unique to each hand. It is as personal as our signature and as joyful as drawing in the sand. Drawing is not a talent. It is a learned and practiced skill. Participants in this short course are guided through traditional and nontraditional drawing exercises to develop personal drawing skills, techniques and strategies in support of their own new or renewed creative practice. Most importantly they are offered new ways of seeing, looking and engaging with the world through the act of drawing in a supportive community."

As class participants we became attached and intrigued with the drawing process, and with each other. We formed a monthly group on the third Wednesday of each month. This group is based at the Green Room in CCA, but occasionally we may meet in members' beautiful homes, or have field trips possibly on different days of the month. We take turns providing inspirational exercises to trigger the creative process. While it is not required that you attend each month, we sure hope that it will continue as a community where we all participate as creators, guides, and an inspirational support group for the creative process. If you were not in these workshops, but are inspired by what we have to say here, you are welcome to join us.

Lynda may teach a few virtual classes throughout the year. These will  be announced and listed separately. She will return next year for another in person workshop which will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile we want to keep our creative spirit alive and expanding, along with the joy of a supportive creative community.  So please join us and sign up each month!  Free for members!

Plein Air Painting

painting by Jo Swanberg

Have you ever painted in the great outdoors or are you interested in starting? The Wednesday Irregulars have been meeting and painting each week for over three decades. And we are always looking for new people to join in the fun.

It’s a friendly group, very flexible, fun and we offer good, honest critique about your work. Everyone is welcome, but there’s one rule: If you want to come with us, you have to show up. People do oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink, mixed media and more. The Irregulars meet on Wednesday mornings and paint in various locations near Cambria and surrounding areas. If you’d like to be added to the email list or would like more information, contact Cam Arnold at camarnold@yahoo.com.
